Education:   - BS in Architecture from The University of Virginia, ‘94

         - Graduate w/honors, 2-year Turfgrass Management Program                                              at Michigan State University, ‘98

 

First job out of UVa was as a greenkeeper at Glenmore CC in Keswick, VA, in 1994-95.  From there I worked for a year as a greenkeeper at Oakland Hills CC in Bloomfield Hills, MI, 1995-96 during which time I worked on preparations for the 1996 US Open Championship and earned acceptance to the turf program at Michigan State. 

My first new construction experience came on my internship from MSU at Beechtree, in Aberdeen, MD working for RGD.  I hung around on various RGD projects over the next few years while trying to stay busy and learning from some others in the business.  I picked up valuable construction experience working for Chip MacDondald and Sons on Atlantic City CC in Atlantic City, NJ and Lighthouse Sound in Ocean City, MD.  I got my first real seat time on a bulldozer working in construction and eventually doing a little shaping for Mike Devries at The Kingsley Club, in Kingsley, MI.  

In 1999, midway through construction of Pacific Dunes, Tom made me a full-time design associate.
